Askalz pulled out a draw against the Tajiks on AFC

The Askalz once again proved that the team would not easily bag down to one of the strongest teams in the AFC. Last May 15, 2008, the RP team(Askalz) pulled out a draw against Tajikistan even if the team only had 10 players after the RP team's defender Jason Cordova was rewarded a red card and was sent out in the 21st minute. Even if crippled, the team did not lose hope but instead they had more courage to face the other team. Truly full of heart!

AFC Champions League

AFC Champions League logo

The AFC Champions League in Asian clubs is just like the UEFA Champions League in European clubs. This league, hosted by the AFC(Asian Football Confederation) and in normal circumstances, it is played by 28 Asian clubs along with the league defending Champions.

The league started in 1967 as the Asian Champion Club Tournament. And as a start, it had been played by eight(8) domestic champions from eight Asian leagues who competed in the inaugural season. With the exception of 1968 season, the tournament was held annually until 1971. During this first four editions, two Israeli clubs from Tel Aviv took three championships. But in 1972, due to lack of interests, the tournament was canceled which eventually resulted in withdrawals of most participants except for two clubs. The tournament was not held for next fourteen years. This also due to the fact that professionalism in Asian club football did not start till late 90s and early 2000s. The price money for this league is $600,000 for the winner and $400,000 for the runner up. 2007's champion was the Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan who won 3-1 against Sepahan of Iran.

Philippine Football Team

Azkals Logo

Being a Filipino soccer player, I am proud that my country has it's own Football team who is currently competing in some tournaments inside and outside the country. The Philippine Football team named the "Azkals", derived from the tagalog word asong kalye as which means street dog started as one of the oldest teams in Asia but even if they are one of the oldest, they never had significant success in the international stage. And for the past years, they were one of the weakest teams in Asia. But even if their record is not that good, players still did not quit on the sport but instead, they are still improving their skills with the help of foreign players such as the Younghusband brother's who are reserves for Chelsea FC. For 2008, the teams is headed again for another upcoming matches for the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers. I'm hoping for the best results for the team... God bless "Azkals"!!
